686 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Board of Health for Carroll county shall at the same time and
in the same manner appoint one district health officer for each
of the several election districts of Carroll county, each of whom
shall be a resident of the district for which he is appointed, and
shall hold office for two years from the date of his appointment,
unless sooner removed for cause. Each district health officer
shall, within the district for which he is appointed, and in con-
junction with the county health officer, administer and enforce
all the laws of the State of Maryland concerning nuisances and
causes of sickness, and shall promptly report to the State Board
of Health, through the county health officer, upon all acts and
occurrences required by law to be so reported.

SEC. 2. And the County Commissioners of said county shall
pay the health officers for services performed under the pro-
visions of this Act annual salaries as follows: To the county
health officer, one hundred and fifty dollars, and to each district
health officer fifty dollars; provided, that the county health
officer shall serve as district health officer for the district in
which he resides without extra compensation.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 110.

AN ACT to repeal chapter one hundred and eighty-three of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at the
January session, in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-
six, entitled "An Act to authorize and empower the judges
of the Circuit Court for Carroll county to appoint a court
stenographer," and to re-enact the same with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That chapter one hundred and eighty-three of the Acts of
the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at the January
session, in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-six, entitled
"An Act to authorize and empower the judges of the Circuit
Court for Carroll county to appoint a court stenographer," be
and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:

SEC. 2. And be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the judges of the Circuit Court for Carroll county be
and they are hereby authorized and directed to appoint a conrt
stenographer, who shall be a sworn officer of. said court, and
said stenographer so appointed shall be paid a salary not less
