ARTICLE XLV-A.
IMMIGRATION.
CHAPTER 382.
AN ACT to repeal Section 2 and Section 9 of Article 45A of
the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, entitled "Im-
migration, " and to re-enact the same with amendments.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 2 and Section 9 of Article 45A of the Code
of Public General Laws of Maryland, entitled "Immigration, "
be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to
read as follows:
2. There shall be appointed by the Governor, by and with
the advice and consent of the Senate, once in every two years,
a Board of Immigration Commissioners, composed of three
members, one of whom shall be president of the board, and one
of whom shall be State Superintendent of Immigration, and
shall be so designated in his appointment; the said commission-
ers shall be appointed for a term of two years, and until their
successors are duly qualified; the the State Superintendent
shall receive a salary of two thousand dollars per annum, paya-
ble quarterly, upon the warrant of the Comptroller, and the
other two commissioners shall receive a salary of five hundred
dollars per annum, payable quarterly, together with their
actual expenses in attending the meetings of the board.
9. The Board of Immigration Commissioners shall meet
monthly at their office in Baltimore city, and such other times
as they may determine for the purpose of promoting the work
for which this bureau is organized; and they shall make an
annual report to the Governor, to be by him laid before the
General Assembly at each regular session; said report shall
contain an itemized statement of all money received by the
board, and to whom and for what purpose paid (the vouchers
for which expenditures shall be filed in the office of the bureau),
the results attained or expected to be attained, the statistics
of immigration and other kindred information, together with
such suggestions as the board may think proper to make.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on the first day of May, 1908.
