1256 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

mittees, to visit the city and county jails, and all other State,
city or county reformatory, penal or correctional institutions,
and all reformatory, penal or correctional institutions which
now or shall hereafter receive financial aid from the State of
Maryland or the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, and it
shall be the duty of said corporation to report the results of
its investigations respectively to the Governor of the State
and the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, with special
reference to the conditions of the various institutions, the care
and condition of the prisoners or any persons detained therein,
together with such other information which might be of bene-
fit to the public, looking to the improvement of the moral and
physical condition of all prisoners or any persons committed
or detained in said institutions; provided, that no active or
visiting committee, officer or officers of said corporation shall
be entitled to visit the institutions heretofore mentioned un-
less notice of the names of the said officers or members of such
committee or committees and the terms of the appointment is
given by this corporation in writing, under its corporate seal,
to the warden, superintendent or other officer in charge of such
jail, reformatory, penal or correctional institution.

Article 14. That said corporation shall be qualified and have
requisite power to receive and administer any special, benevo-
lent or charitable trust that may be confided or entrusted to
said corporation to carry out its purposes and objects or for
any other purpose or object.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 298.

AN ACT to amend the charter of the United States Fidelity
and Guaranty Company, as said charter was enacted by chap-
ter 52 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of
1896, and as amended by chapter 188 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland of 1898, and by chapter 261
of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of 1900,
and by chapter 86 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
Maryland of 1902, by repealing sections 6, 7, 9, 10, 11 and
12 of chapter 52 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
Maryland of 1896; and by repealing and re-enacting with
amendments section 14 of said chapter 52 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland of 1896, and also by adding
an additional section to said chapter.
