1172 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

not town coupon bonds, not to exceed the sum of twenty-five
thousand dollars, shall be issued by said town for the pur
pose of improving the streets of said town of Pocomoke City,
and to authorize and direct the issue and sale of said bonds
if the voters shall decide in favor thereof, and to provide for
a special tax to pay the interest and principal of said bonds
when due.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That at such time after the passage of this Act as the
Mayor and Council of Pocomoke City shall fix by ordinance an
election shall be held in the town of Pocomoke City, in Wor-
cester county, for the purpose of determining by a vote of the
legally qualified voters of said town the question whether or
not the said town shall issue and sell its coupon bonds to an
amount not to exceed twenty-five thousand dollars, all the
money derived from the sale of which bonds to be used for
improving the streets of said town of Pocomoke City. It shall
be the duty of the Mayor to give ten days' notice of said election
by advertisement in some newspaper published in Pocomoke
City, which notice shall contain the substance of this Act.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That at the said election all the
legally qualified voters of Pocomoke City shall be entitled to
vote, and the ballots shall have printed on them the words,
"for the issue of the street improvement bonds" and "against
the issue of the street improvement bonds," respectively, and
the Mayor shall appoint the judges of said elections, who shall
qualify in the same manner as the judges of the regular annual
elections for Mayor and Councilmen of Pocomoke City, and
the returns shall be made by the judges forthwith to the clerk
of the Circuit Court for Worcester county in manner and form
as required in the regular annual election of said town, showing
the total number of votes cast at said election for the issue of
said bonds and also the total number of votes cast against the
issue of said bonds, and the clerk of the Circuit Court afore-
said shall record the said returns, and if a majority of the
votes cast at said elections shall be against the issue of said
bonds, then and in that case no bonds shall be issued, but if a
majority of the votes cast shall be for the issue of said bonds,
then the Mayor and Council of Pocomoke City shall issue and
sell the said bonds to the amount of not more than twenty-
five thousand dollars, as hereinafter provided.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That if a majority of the votes
cast at said election shall be in favor of the issue of said bonds
then and in that case the Mayor and Council of Pocomoke City
are authorized and directed to borrow on the credit of said
