1168 LAWS OF MARYLAND.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That for the purpose of determining the question as to
whether or not any license shall be granted in Worcester
county for the sale therein of spirituous, fermented or intoxi-
cating liquors, alcoholic bitters or compounds, the sense of the
qualified and registered voters of said county shall be taken
at a special election which shall be held for that purpose
on Saturday, March 21, 1908; that said election provided for
as aforesaid shall be held under the supervision of the Board
of Supervisors of Election of Worcester county, who shall
furnish for said purpose the ballot boxes, and who shall, upon
application, appoint two watchers for each election district
of said county, representing opposite sentiments upon the ques-
tion to be voted for, and as to place of holding the same, the
printing and distribution of ballots, the method of voting and
in all other respects shall be governed by the general election
laws of the State as the same are applicable to Worcester
county; that for the purpose of holding the said special elec-
tion the Supervisors of Election of Worcester county shall give
ten days' notice of said election by publication in two news-
papers representing opposite political parties published in
Worcester county, of the time and place of holding said elec-
tion, and shall appoint judges and clerks of election in the
same manner and of the same number as are required to be
appointed at any election under the general election laws of the
State; that said Supervisors of Elections of Worcester county
shall have prepared the ballots herein provided for at the
expense of the county, said ballots to be prepared and printed
in the same manner and style as official ballots for any general
election, having on each ballot the following words printed
in parallel lines and in plain type, "against the sale of intoxi-
cating liquors" and "for the sale of intoxicating liquors."
Every such ballot on which a cross (X) shall be placed in the
square opposite the words "against the sale of intoxicating
liquors" or "for the sale of intoxicating liquors," shall be
counted as a vote in the negative or affirmative, as the case
may be, but no ballot shall be counted as a vote upon the
question unless a cross ,(X) shall be placed opposite one of the
said phrases. The manner of canvassing the ballots and mak-
ing returns thereof shall conform in all respects to the re-
quirements of the general election laws of the State, as the
same are applicable to Worcester county, and it shall be the
duty of the Supervisors of Elections of Worcester county, if
it shall appear from the returns of said election that a majority
of the votes cast were against the sale of intoxicating liquors,
to give notice of such returns of election in one or more news-
