1016 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

75. At the first regular meeting of the Council after the
regular election, the Mayor shall appoint, subject to the con-
firmation of the Council, a person not a member of the Coun-
cil, whose official title shall be "Town Clerk," to serve for two
years from June first following, or until his successor shall
be duly appointed and qualified, and it shall be his duty to
attend all the meetings of the Council and act as clerk thereof;
he shall be collector of taxes and treasurer of the town, and
shall be at the Council room on such days and hours as may
be provided by ordinance or resolution, and he shall perform
such other duties as this charter may provide and the Mayor
and Council may by ordinance or resolution direct, and he
shall receive for his services as town clerk the sum of five hun-
dred dollars ($500.00) per annum.

SEC. 2. And lie it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 40.

AN ACT to add two new sections to article 21 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Talbot County," sub-
title "Easton," as amended by chapter 458 of the Acts passed
at the January session of 1906, to follow sections 50 and 66,
respectively, and to be known as section 50A and section 66A.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That two new sections be and the same are hereby added
to article 21 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Talbot County," sub-title "Easton," as amended by chap-
ter 458 of the Acts passed at the January session of 1906, to
follow sections 50 and 66, respectively, and to be known as
section 50A and section 66A, and to read as follows:

50A. The town clerk shall, at least thirty days before any
regular or special election, unless otherwise provided, give
notice to the voters of Easton in one or more newspapers pub-
lished in Easton, of the day and hours and the place or places
of holding such election, and such other information as may
be necessary or advisable to enable the voters to intelli-
gently cast their ballots.

66A. Whenever a vacancy shall occur in the office of presi-
dent or any member of the Council, through any cause what-
soever, the Mayor shall proceed forthwith to order an election
to fill the vacancy, and said election shall be held and con-
ducted in all respects as regular elections are conducted, after
