WHEREAS, The present librarian has . already catalogued by
this system over nine thousand volumes, and is desirous in the
best interest of the public to continue the same ; and,
WHEREAS, There is at this time no additional shelf room in

increase in the volumes, by exchange and otherwise, demands
the purchase of steel stacks for said books and the preservation
thereof ; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary

land. That the sum of two thousand dollars be and the same
is hereby appropriated for a continuation of the card catalogue
system, in the State library, and for the ' purchase of steel
stacks to be placed in said library for shelving and preserving
the books therein, and any additions thereto; the work of
cataloguing and placing the stacks and arranging the booke
thereon to be done by or under the supervision of the State
Librarian.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Comptroller be and he is
hereby directed to draw his warrant on the Treasurer in favor
of the State Librarian for the purpose of this Act, for such
sums as the said librarian shall produce proper vouchers for,
and the Treasurer is hereby directed to pay the same out of
any moneys in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, and the
said librarian shall make an annual report to the Governor on
or before the first day of January of the condition of the
library, and of the work done hereunder, and a detailed state-
ment of the receipts and expenditures of all money expended
for said library.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 378.
AN ACT to authorize the Board of Public Works in thie
State, in its discretion, to sell and transfer to the purchaser
or purchasers thereof, the annuity of ninety thousand dollars
created by virtue or in pursuance of the provisions of chap-
ter 260 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland,
passed at the January Session, 1854, and to sell the shares oi
stock in the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Company be-
longing to the State of Maryland.
