also a tax not to exceed two dollars upon any one bitch within
the said corporation.

Condemn
land.

190. Whenever it shall, in the judgment of the Town
Council, become necessary to condemn land for the purpose of
opening or widening a street or alley, the corporation or any
person aggrieved by the condemnation proceedings, may appeal
to the Circuit Court under such regulations as may be pre-
scribed by ordinances.

Removal
from office.

191. A member of the Town Council may be removed from
office for the same cause and in the same manner that the Mayor
may be removed, as provided by this Act.

192. It shall be the duty of the owners or possessors of prop-
erty abutting on any street, or whenever in the discretion of
the Mayor and Town Council they deem it necessary for the

safety and use of the public to make and keep the sidewalk
upon which the said property so abuts in good repair at his
own cost and expense, and such owner shall be responsible for
any damages which may be occasioned by his negligence in
repairing such sidewalk or failure to keep them in good and
pr >per repair. If the owner or possessor shall fail to make or
repair any fidewalk after due notice, according to the ordi-
nances of the town, the corporation shall repair the same and
charge the same to the owner, possessor or other person respons-
ible for such repairs, and may proceed to collect the same
according to law, and all sidewalks shall be constructed or re-
paired in sucli manner as may be required by ordinances, but
the Mayor and Town Council of Oakland shall not be respons-
ible for any damage which may be occasioned by reason of a
failure on the part of lot owners to keep their sidewalks in
proper repairs.

Power to
remore.

193. The Town Council shall have power to remove for cause
any officer elected by it ; also the power to remove the bailiff
for any cause or neglect of duty and to fill any vacancy in
office which it has the power to till in the first place, and shall
have the power to fill the vacancy of bailiff if the Mayor fails
to fill the place as provided for in the first place.

Oath.

194. The town clerk, before entering upon his duties, shall
take the oath herein prescribed for members of the Town Coun-
cil, and shall execute such bond as may be prescribed by ordi-
nance.

Execute a
bond.

195 A. The treasurer shall, before he enters upon his duties,
execute a bond as required by the ordinance of the corporation
and shall take the same oath which is prescribed for members
