Effective.

SEQ. 9. And le it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
on the first day of April next.
Approved March 2, 1898.

CHAPTER 25.
AN ACT to repeal Sections 167 to 195 A inclusive, of Article
twelve of the Code of Public Local Laws, title "Garrett
County," sub-title "Oakland," as said sections were enacted
by chapter 343 of the Acts of 1892, and to re enact with
amendments said Sections 167 to 195 A, inclusive, of Article
twelve of the Code of Public Local Laws, and to add certain
sections to said Article to follow Section 195 A, and to be desig-
nated as Sections 195 B, 195 E, 195 D, 195 E, 195 F, 195 G, 195 H,
195 I, 195 J, 195 K, 195 L and 195 M.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land^ That sections 167 to 195 A, inclusive, of Article twelve
of the Code of Public Local Laws, title "Garrett county," sub-

of the Acts of 1892, be and the same are hereby repealed and
re enacted with amendments, and certain new sections be and
the same are hereby added to said Article to follow section
195 A, to be designated as sections 195 B, 195 C, 195 D, 195 E,
195 F, 195 G, 195 H, 195 I, 195 J, 195 K, 195 L and 195 M, the
whole to read as follows :
167. The inhabitants of the town of Oakland, in Garrett
county, are a corporation by the name of the "Mayor and Town

name.

Council of Oakland," and by that name may have perpetual
succession, may sue and be sued, and may have and use a com-
mon seal, which may be altered at pleasure, and may purchase
and hold such seal, personal or mixed property as may be re-
quired for the use of said corporation, and may dispose of such
property when necessary for the benefit of said corporation,
and all the property and funds of every kind belonging to said
corporation, are vested in the Mayor and Town Council of
Oakland.
168. The officers of the said corporation shall be a Mayor, a

Town Council, which shall be composed of six members, a
President of the Town Council, a Town Clerk, a Treasurer, a
Tax Collector, a Police Magistrate, an Attorney, a Bailiff, a
Weighmaster and a Street Commissioner, who shall severally
perform such duties and have such powers as may be prescribed
by this Act, and the ordinance passed in pursuance thereof.
