LLOYD LOWNDES, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

Anne Arundel county, and also for arranging, jacketing and
properly filing the original wills of the early settlers of the
province, between the years 1635 and 1777, also in the said
office, and at the same time preparing a suitable index thereof ;
and
WHEREAS, Under and by virtue of the said Acts of the

General Assembly, the work so undertaken has been diligently
prosecuted, and the indices thus far completed, contain more
than 150,000 references, and thus a considerable portion of the
records have been made available for use, but a large amount
still remains to be done, which it is desirable should be com-
pleted as rapidly as possible, that all of the said records may
be made available ; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted ly the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars, or so

much thereof as may be necessary be and it is hereby appro-
priated out of the levy of the year 1898, and the sum of seven
hundred and fifty dollars, or so much thereof as may be neces-
sary be and it is hereby appropriated out of the levy for the
year 1899, for the further continuance and if possible completion
of the said work of indexing, which said sums shall be paid
from time to time as the work progresses to the Register of
Wills of Anne Arundel county, by the warrant of the Comp-
troller issued upon the Treasurer of Maryland, upon the cer-
tificate of the Governor and the Register of Wills of Anne
Arundel county, that the work has been properly performed;
provided, however, that the cost of said indexing shall be
paid at the rate now fixed by law for indexing the books in
the office of the Register of Wills ; and provided, further,
that the said Governor of Maryland and the Register of Wills
of Anne Arundel county may, in their discretion expend, from
time to time, snch part of the sums hereby appropriated, as
they shall find necessary for the verification and checking of
the said indices ; and provided, also that the said work shall
be fully completed by the appropriation herein made.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
