corporation, in order that thereby its existence may be rendered
more secure, and that it may be enabled to carry out with
greater efficiency the important objects for which it was
formed ; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That James H. Benton, Thomas E. Edinfield,
Richard F. Dadds, John Y. Geis, Charles E. Kirwan, John O.
Phillips, H. R. Kelly, Constance Livingston, Isaac Grail man,

John F. Roe, Sam'l E. Gait, Enoch S. Tayles and W. H.
Morgan, and such other persons as are now members of
said conclave, and their successors, be and are hereby
created a corporation, by the name, style and title of
Chesapeake Conclave, number thirty, of the Improved
Order of Heptasophs of Kent Island, Queen Anne's county,
State of Maryland, and by that name shall have perpetual
succession, may sue and be sued, answer and defend in
any court of law or equity, and may adopt by-laws, rules
and regulations, as may appear necessary and proper for
conducting the affairs of said corporation, as shall not be con-
trary to the constitution and laws, rules and regulations of the
Supreme Conclave of Inproved Order of Heptasophs, or as
shall not be contrary to the laws of the State of Maryland, or
the United States, and the same may change, alter or amend,
as may appear proper, and may have, use, and at pleasure
change, a common seal, and in general, exercise all such rights,
privileges and immunities, as by law are incident or necessary
to the corporation herein constituted, and to enable the mem-
bers of said conclave to exercise all things concerning the
design of the corporation for the benevolent relief of the sick
and distressed, and for the relief of the widow and orphan, and
for the promotion of their purposes generally.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the by-laws, rules and

regulations of Chesapeake Conclave No. 30, Improved Order
of Heptasophs, of Kent Island, Queen Anne'e county, Mary-
land, shall be the by-laws, rules and regulations for the govern-
ment of the corporation hereby incorporated, until the same
shall be regularly repealed or altered by said corporation, or by
the action of the Supreme Conclave of Improved Order of
Heptasophs, and that the present officers of Chesapeake Con-
clave No. 30, Improved Order of Heptasophs, shall be the
