262 R. The said treasurer shall receive as compensation for
his services under the provisions of this Act, and any amend-

ments thereof, an annual salary of fifteen hundred dollars, to
be paid monthly, and such commissions as may accrue under
the provisions of this Article ; and he shall have power to
appoint such clerk or clerks as may be found necessary to the
proper discharge of the duties of his office, and shall be allowed
for such clerk hire a sum not exceeding nine hundred dollars
per annum; and the County Commissioners are hereby directed
to levy annually such sum as may be necessary to pay the salary
of the treasurer and the hire of said clerk or clerks. And the
clerk or clerks so appointed shall be also deputy treasurers,
shall take the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution of
this State, and shall execute such bond as the treasurer may
require. And it shall be the duty of the County Commis-
sioners to assign the treasurer an office in the court house, or
such other building as they may deem most convenient, and
supply the same with all necessary furniture, and annually to
levy such sums as may be necessary for the purchase of books,
stationery and stamps, for use of the treasurer, and for all
printing required under the provisions of this Act not other-
wise provided for.
262s. It shall be the duty of the clerk of the County Com-
missioners to assist the treasurer in the clerical work of the

262 T. Nothing in this article contained shall be taken or
understood as impairing the duties and obligations of collectors
of taxes in Harford county heretofore appointed, in regard to

the levies now in their hands for collection ; but snch collec
tors shall proceed to complete such collections under the exist-
ing provisions of , law as fully as if the Act had not passed,
and the clerk of the County Commissioners shall continue to
perform all the duties by him required to be performed in
relation to the receipt and disbursement of taxes heretofore
levied until all outstanding accounts thereupon dependent shall
be fully settled and closed, and for that purpose only the pro-
visions of law applicable thereto are hereby continued in
force until such accounts are settled and closed as afore-
said.
262 V. It shall be the duty of the treasurer at all times to
inform himself, by all lawful means, if all property, stock or
investments in said county liable to taxation, and not included
