LLOYD LOWNDES, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

258. At the general election to be held in Harford county
'on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of

697

November, in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, and
on the same day in every second year thereafter, the qualified
voters of said county shall elect, by ballot, a treasurer of said
county, who shall be a person skilled in accounts, a resident
and qualified voter of said county, and not less than twenty-
five years of age, whose terra of office shall be for a period of
two years from the first day of May next succeeding his elec-
tion, and until his successor is elected or appointed and quali-
fied according to law.

259. Before entering upon the discharge of the duties of
said office, the treasurer of Harford county shall take and sub-
scribe before the clerk of the Circuit Cqurt for said county

the oath prescribed in section six of Article one of the Con-
stitution of this State, and shall execute a bond to the State of
Maryland, in the penalty of twenty-five thousand dollars, with
the condition prescribed in section thirty-two of Article eighty-
one of the Code of Public General Laws of this State, relat-
ing to the bonds of the collectors of State taxes ; and also a bond
to the State of Maryland in the penalty , of twenty-five thou-
sand dollars, conditioned for the faithful performance of his
duties al treasurer of Harford county. Said bonds shall be
approved by the County Commissioners of said county, and
new bonds shall be given for each year that he shall hold
office ; provided, that after the first year of his incumbency
said bonds may be executed and delivered at any time before
the annual levy of taxes is placed in his hands for collection,
and all such bonds shall be recorded in the office of the clerk
of the Circuit Court for Harford county. And the Commis-
sioners of said county are hereby authorized to approve as
sureties upon said bonds, a guarantee company incorporated
under the laws of this State, and in case a guarantee company
is accepted and approved as such surety, the County Commis-
sioners shall levy such sum as may be necessary to defray
the expense thereof.

260. In case the person so appointed or elected shall fail to

before the day prescribed for his entering upon the duties of
his office, or before the annual levy of taxes is placed in his
hand for collection, as the case may be, or in event of the
treasurer's removal from the county, death, resignation or
removal from office for misconduct therein, the County Com-
missioners shall declare said office vacant, and at once proceed
