ore for said county in the same manner as now provided by
law, and that as to said collectors so to be appointed for the
years 1898 and 1899 all the provisions of said section 42 and
of section 31 of Article 81 of the Code of Public General
Laws, shall be and remain in full force and unrepealed, the
same as though this Act had not been passed.

42 A. The tax collectors for each of said tax collection dis-
tricts shall have been bona fide residents of the several collec-

tion districts for which they shall be elected for at least five
years before their election, but each and all of said collectors
shall be elected by the voters of the whole county, and each of
said collectors, before entering upon the discharge of their
duties, shall give the bond conditioned for the faithful per-
formance of their duties in the collection of State and county
taxes in the penalty and with the conditions as now provided
for tax collectors' bonds by section 32 of Article 81 of the
Code of Public General Laws of Maryland ; provided, how-
ever, that the surety or sureties furnished by said collectors
upon said bonds shall in all cases be a trust company or com-
panies incorporated under the laws of Maryland and doing
business therein, and not individual' sureties, but said bonds, in
all other respects, shall be given in accordance with and shall
be subject to the provisions of said section 32 of Article 81 of
the Code of Public General Laws; and the County Commis-
sioners, at their April session, in the year 1900, and in every
year thereafter shall, before said collectors shall enter upon the
performance of their duties, fix the salary or compensation of
each of said tax collectors for the ensuing year, which amounts
so fixed by said Commissioners shall be in full of all compensa-
tion of every kind to be paid the said collectors for collecting
the State and county taxes so placed in their hands for collec-
tion from year to year, and section 31 of Article 81 of the
Code of Public General Laws, so far as the same relates to
Allegany county, is hereby repealed, except as hereinbefore
provided.
42 B. It shall be the duty of said collectors to collect all
State and county taxes placed in their hands for collection by

to the Comptroller, and to pay over the same to the Treasurer
of the State of Maryland, as such collectors are now or may be
