CHAPTER 157.
AN ACT to declare the sanction and consent of the General
Assembly of Maryland to sundry gifts, bequests and devises
contained in the last will and testament of Winefride
Martin, late of the city of Baltimore, deceased, to and for
use and benefit of sundry ministerial persons, religious cor-
porations, denominations or sects, and to certain charitable
institutions hereinafter named.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the sanction and consent of the General

Assembly of Maryland be and the same is hereby declared,
given and granted to the following gifts, bequests, devises con-
tained in the last will and testament of Winefride Martin, to
and for the use of certain ministerial persons, religious corpora-
tions, orders, denominations or sects, and to certain charitable
institutions as herein set forth :
First. To the bequest contained in the last will and testa-
ment of Winefride Martin, late of Baltimore city, deceased, unto
the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Baltimore, for the time
being, and his successors, the sum of fifteen hundred dollars in
trust, to invest the same in some safe security yielding six per
centum per annum, if possible, and to pay said annual interest as
follows: forty dollars to the parish priest at said St. Mary's
Catholic Church, near Bryantown, in Charles county, Mary-
land ; twenty-five dollars thereof to said priest for the offering
up of masses every year, and the remaining twenty-five dollars
thereof to said priest for purpose of paying some one to care
for our burial lot in said cemetery from year to year.
Second. To the bequest contained in the last will and testa-
ment of said Winefride Martin, late of Baltimore city,
deceased, of two thousand dollars to the most Reverend
James Gibbons, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Baltimore.
Third. To the bequest contained in the last will and testa-
ment of Winefride Martin, late of Baltimore city, deceased,
of five thousand dollars to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of
Baltimore for the time being, in trust, to found therewith a
scholarship in the Catholic University of America.
Fourth. To the bequest contained in the last will and testa-
ment of Winefride Martin, late of Baltimore city, deceased, of
two thousand dollars to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of
Baltimore, for the time being, in trust as to one thousand dol-
lars thereof to establish a scholarship in Calvert Hall College,
