LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, The Baltimore Sugar Refining Company was
created prior to January 1, 1890 ; therefore.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the sum of thirteen hundred and twelve dol-

lars and fifty cents be and the same is hereby appropriated to
refund to the said Baltimore Sugar Refining Company the
sums of money paid by it to the State of Maryland under the
provisions of said Act of 1890, chapter 536, or Acts of 1894,
chapter 114.

Appropria-
tion.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Treasurer of the State
shall, upon the warrant of the Comptroller of the Treasury,
who is hereby authorized and directed to issue the same to the
Baltimore Sugar Refining Company for the sum of thirteen
hundred and twelve dollars and fifty cents, pay the said sum of
money to the said Baltimore Sugar Refining Company.

Effective.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 87.
AN ACT to repeal Section 3 of Article 38, Public General
Laws, title "Fines and Forfeitures," and to re-enact the same
with amendments.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted ly the General Assembly of Mary-

title " Fines and Forfeitures," be and the same is hereby
repealed and re enacted with amendments, so as to read as
follows :
3. Any person who shall or may hereafter be committed to

ment of any court of justice, or by any justice of the peace of
this State, for non-payment of any fine and costs not exceed-
ing the sum of fifty dollars, who shall have remained in cus-
tody as aforesaid for the space of thirty days ; or any person
who shall or may hereafter be committed to jail aforesaid for
non-payment of any fine and costs above fifty and not exceed-
ing one hundred and fifty dollars, who shall have remained in
custody aforesaid for the space of sixty days ; or any person
who shall or may hereafter be committed to jail aforesaid for
the non-payment of any fine and costs above one hundred and
fifty and not exceeding five hundred dollars, who shall have
remained in custody aforesaid for the space of ninety days ; or
