thereafter as may be, aud on the first Tuesday in August of
each and every second year thereafter, or as soon thereafter as
may be, and elect a person, not a member of the board, who
shall serve as county school secretary, treasurer and exami-
ner, and notice of such election, signed by the president of the
board, shall be transmitted to the Comptroller. The duties of
the county school secretary, treasurer and examiner for
Anne Arundel county shall be performed by one person, and
he shall not be allowed any extra compensation for an assist-
ant, nor shall the County Commissioners of said county appoint
any such assistant, nor fix or allow any compensation to any
one acting as such. The compensation of said county school
secretary, treasurer and examiner shall not exceed twelve,
hundred dollars per annum, "and he shall be allowed a sum not
exceeding three hundred dollars in any one year for his personal
expenses in visiting the public schools of said county, upon
monthly accounts and vouchers thereof to be exhibited to and
passed by said board, and he shall not be allowed any fees or
extra compensation for examining caiadidates for the profession
of teacher in said county, or for visiting the schools thereof, or
for the discharge of any other duties directly or indirectly per-
taining to his said office. The office hours of said secretary,
treasurer and examiner shall be from nine o'clock A. M. until
three o'clock P. M., and he shall be in attendance at his office
between said hours for the transaction of the business thereof
on Tuesdays and Saturdays of each week, and on other days of
each week, when not visiting the schools of said county, as the
business of his office or the orders of said board shall require.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all Acts or parts of Acts
or provisions of the Code of Public General Laws, so far as
the same apply to Anne Arundel county, inconsistent with the

Repeal.

provisions of this Act be and the same hereby are repealed ;
provided, however, that the provisions of this Act shall not be
neld to affect the duties or the compensation of the present
county school secretary, treasurer and examiner of said county,
or those of the assistant examiner of said county, until the
election and qualification of the successor in office of said
present secretary, treasurer and examiner under this Act.

Effective.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
