LLOYD LOWNDES, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

CHAPTER 38.

AN ACT to authorize and direct the Board of School Com-
missioners of Calvert County, to erect a Public School
House for white children in the second election district of
said county on the public road leading from Barstow Post
Office to Prince Frederick, and within one-quarter of a mile
of said post office, and to require the County Commissioners
of said county to levy a sum of money not exceeding four
hundred dollars to pay for the land on which said school
house will be erected, and for said building.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

land, That the Board of School Commissioners of Calvert
county be and they are hereby authorized and required before
September the n'rst, 1898, to purchase sufficient land and to
erect a public school house thereon, in the second election dis-
trict of said county, on the public road leading from Barstow
post office to Prince Frederick, and within one-quarter of a
mile of said post office, the site to be selected by a committee
appointed by the Board of School Commissioners, and com-
posed of the School Commissioners in the second election dis-
trict, and two persons who will be patrons of said public
school.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners

be and they are hereby authorized and required to levy upon
the assessable property of Calvert county at the next levy a
sum of money not exceeding four hundred dollars to pur-
case said tract of land and to erect a suitable public school
house thereon.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That after the levy, as provided
for in the foregoing section, shall have been made, it shall be
the duty of the Board of School Commissioners for said county
to advertise for two successive weeks in some newspaper, pub-
lished in said county, for sealed proposals for the building of

nished, and upon the day named in said advertisement they
shall publicly open said bids and shall award the contract to
the lowest bidder, who shall be required to give a good and
sufficient bond for the faithful performance of such contract,
and that said public school house shall be completed and ready
for occupancy on or before September the 1st, 1898.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
