LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, Without statutory enactment upon that subject,
the said County Commissioners have no authority to buy or
convey such properties ; and

WHEREAS, For the future protection of the State and county,
it is proper that they should be empowered to purchase property
for taxes due and in default, and to convey the same to pur-
chasers from them ; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

Local Laws, title "Anne Arundel Connty," sub-title "Treasurer,"
to come in after section 236 A of said Article, to be designated
as sections 236 B, 236 C, 236 D and 236 E of said Article, and
to read as follows :
236 B. All purchases of real estate heretofore made by the

County Commissioners of Anne Arundel county from the
respective treasurers of said county, at tax sales for State and
county taxes in default, be and the same are hereby ratified,
confirmed and legalized, as to the vesting in said County Com-
missioners of the title of the properties so purchased, subject
to the ratification of such sales by the Circuit Court for Anne
Arundel county.
236 C. The said Commissioners of Anne Arundel county be

and they are hereby authorized, in case of any future sales of
property at tax sales for default in the payment of taxes, to
purchase such property and acquire title to and convey the
same to purchasers as if they were a natural person ; provided,
however, that in case of such purchase by the said County
Commissioners, that it shall not be lawful for them to pay for
such property a greater amount than the State and county
taxes in default, and the costs of sale, ratification and con-
veyance.
236 D. Whenever the said County Commissioners shall make

such purchases as aforesaid, and the sale shall have been
reported to the court by the treasurer and ratified, and that no
deed of conveyance has been made to the Connty Commis-
sioners by said treasurer, and the said County Commissioners
shall sell such property to a bona fide purchaser before the
same has been conveyed by muniment of title to them, that it
shall be lawful upon the filing of a joint agreement in the pro-
ceedings, signed by the purchaser and the said County Com-
missioners, to have a deed made directly from the treasurer to
the party so purchasing such property from the County Com-
missioners, and upon the filing of said agreement in the pro-
