1155.

21. Whenever the Council shall levy a tax, they shall cause
to be made out an alphabetical list of all the persons to be
charged therewith, and shall cause to be affixed thereto the
respective suras to be collected from each person, and a war-
rant to the bailiff to collect the same.

22. The bailiff appointed by the Council shall enforce the
payment of corporation taxes in the same manner and with
like effect as collectors of State and county taxes may enforce
the payment of State and county taxes.

23. The bailiff shall make all collections required of him
and pay the same to the clerk within thirty days from the time
the same shall come into his hands, and which said clerk shall
hold, together with all moneys received by him, subject to the
order of the Council.

24. The bailiff shall attend the meetings of the Council and
perform such duties as it may direct; he shall prevent disor-
derly meetings of persons, and he shall enforce all ordinances
that may be exacted by the Council.

or levying execution for taxes as are allowed county collectors,
and for making any arrests, or serving process for violation of
any ordinances of the corporation, the same fees as are allowed
constables for similar services ; and when the bailiff wilfully
fails to discharge any duty of his office, he may in addition to
the remedy on his bond, be fined by the Mayor in his discre-
tion, not exceeding ten dollars for any one offense, for the pay-
ment of which said fines, his bond shall be responsible.

26. The police justice of the peace of election district
number twelve in Frederick county who shall reside at Bruns-
wick, or the Mayor of said town, or Mayor pro tem, in the
absence, sickness or other disability of said police justice shall,
for the purpose of preserving the peace of said town and for
other municipal and police purposes, have full power and
authority to hear, determine and pass sentence in all cases for
violation of any ordinance of said town, and may impose fines
for such violation, and in default of the payment of such fines
and the costs of prosecution, may imprison offenders in the
town lock-up or county jail, but not exceeding one day for
every dollar of fine imposed and not exceeding thirty days in
all; and for the purpose of carrying out the police powers
herein granted, the person, before whom any case for the viola-
lation of an ordinance of said town shall be tried as aforesaid,
shall have the power to issue warrants commanding the bailiff
