SEC. 2. And be it enacted That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 406.
AN ACT making appropriations for the support of the State
Government, for the fiscal year ending on the thirtieth day
of September, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine.

Effective,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted ty the General Assembly of
Maryland That for the expenditures in the support of the
State Government for the fiscal year beginning with the first
day of October, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, and ending
with the thirtieth day of September, eighteen hundred and
ninety-nine, the following sums of money or so much thereof
as may be necessary, be and the same are hereby appropri-
ated, that is to say :
FOR STATE OFFICERS.
For the salary of the Governor, four thousand five hundred

dollars ; for the salary of the Secretary of State, two thousand
dollars ; for the salary of the Messenger to the Governor, one
thousand dollars ; for the salary of the Comptroller of the
Treasury, two thousand five hundred dollars ; for the salary of
the chief clerk to the Comptroller, eighteen hundred dollars ;
for the salary of two assistant clerks to the Comptroller, fifteen
hundred dollars each, three thousand dollars; for the salary of
two assistant clerks to the Comptroller, twelve hundred dollars
each, twenty-four hundred dollars ; for the salary of the Treas-
urer of the State, two thousand five hundred dollars ; for the
salary of the chief clerk to the Treasurer, eighteen hundred
dollars ; for the salary of two assistant clerks to the Treasurer,
twelve hundred dollars each, twenty-four hundred dollars ; for
the salary of two clerks to the State Tax Commissioner, twelve
hundred dollars each, twenty-four hundred dollars ; for the
salary of the State Librarian, fifteen hundred dollars ; for the
salary of the Commissioner of the Land Office, fifteen hundred
dollars ; for the salary of one clerk to the Commissioner of the
Land Office, twelve hundred dollars.
