the state's attorney for Baltimore city has
reported to the comptroller in regard to the
same that he considers these balances, as pub-
lished in table number fifteen, of the comp-
troller's report, from eighteen hundred and
forty-eight to eighteen hundred and sixty-seven
inclusive, as absolutely worthless and uncol-
lectable, and recommends that legislation should
be had at once authorizing the comptroller to
strike these accounts from his books ; and,
whereas the comptroller and treasurer of the
state both approve the same ; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-

bly of Maryland, That the comptroller of the
treasury be and he is hereby authorized and
empowered to strike from his books all balances
of state taxes now standing charged to the
collectors of Baltimore city for the years from
eighteen hundred and forty-eight to eighteen
hundred and sixty-seven inclusive, together
with the interest which may have accrued
thereon ; and that any further publication of
said balance in the comptroller's annual report
shall cease.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

sembly of Maryland, That the treasurer of the
State of Maryland, upon the warrant of the
comptroller of the treasury, who is hereby au-
thorized and directed to issue the same, be and
the same is hereby directed to pay to Elijah M.
Friend the sum of fifty dollars, for services
performed under an order of the house of dele-
gates of eighteen hundred and eighty-four as
engrossing clerk, the sum of fifty dollars; and
