of this state as prescribed by the act of eighteen
hundred and eighty-six, chapter two hundred
and ninety-six, sections twenty-four and five, for
the city of Baltimore, to hold office for two years
or until his successor shall have been qualified,
and to be removable by the governor on cause
shown, in his discretion, and another person
shall be appointed by the governor in his place
to serve out the balance of his term ; provided,
however, that the provisions of this bill shall
not apply to persons engaged on such vessels
who share the profits of the cargo and who are
not employed on regular wages, or to persons
living in the county of which the captain is a
resident ; provided, that the word county in this
act shall not be construed to include Baltimore
city.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That every state
shipping commissioner so appointed shall give
bond to the State of Maryland for the faithful

performance of his duty in the penalty of five
thousand dollars, with one or more sureties, which
bond shall be approved by a judge of the circuit
court of the county where the office of the com-
missioner may be located, as hereinafter pro-
vided, and by a judge of the supreme bench of
