it necessary for said purpose, which sum, or so
much thereof as may be necessary, they shall
apply to the purchase of a fire-engine and hose,
such as are now used by the said county fire de-
partment, and for a suitable building for an en-
gine-house.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

Chapter 437.
AN ACT to reimburse the county commissioners
of St. Mary's county for the costs and expenses
incurred in the case of the State against John
Benjamin Biscoe.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-

bly of Maryland, That the costs and expenses in-
curred and to be incurred in the trial of the case
of the State of Maryland against John Benjamin
Biscoe, indicted in the circuit court for St.
Mary's county for murder, charged to have been
committed on the Potomac river, outside the
limits of said county, and removed for trial to
the circuit court for Charles county, be paid out
of the treasury of the state ; and that the comp-
troller be and he is hereby authorized and
directed to adjust and settle the amount so in-
curred and to be incurred in the said trial and
execution of said Biscoe, and to draw his war-
rant or warrants upon the treasurer for the
amount so ascertained; but in no event shall the
amount paid or to be paid under this section ex-
ceed the sum of two thousand dollars.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That to enable the

two thousand dollars be and the same is hereby
appropriated; which said sum, or so much thereof
as may be necessary for the purpose, shall be
paid by the treasurer upon the warrant or war-
