certificates to bear interest, not exceeding five
per cent, interest per annum, until their matur-
ity, but not afterwards ; and it shall be the duty
of the county commissioners of the county where
such certificates have been issued, and they are
hereby directed to levy upon the assessable prop-
erty of said county for the payment of the same
at their maturity in the annual levy next pre-
ceding such maturity.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

Chapter 306.
AN ACT to amend chapter four hundred and
fifty-nine of the laws of eighteen hundred and
eighty-six, entitled "An act to define a sum of
money now in the hands, or which, under ex-
isting laws, may come into the hands of the
board of police commissioners for the city of
Baltimore, and to provide for its application,"
by adding an additional section thereto, rela-
tive to clerks and turnkeys, to be numbered
and known as section two A.

section.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the act of said general
assembly, enacted in the year one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-six, and known as
chapter four hundred and fifty-nine, and entitled
"An act to define a fund of money now in the
hands, or which, under existing laws, may come
into the hands of the board of police commis-
sioners for the city of Baltimore, and to provide
for its application," be and the same is hereby
amended by adding thereto an additional section,
to be known and numbered section two A.
SEC. 2A. That in addition to the sum of money
which, prior to the seventh day of April, eighteen
hundred and eighty-six, had been authorized by
law to be paid out of the fund now known as the
