College of Physicians and Surgeons of Baltimore City, for the
purpose of the erection of a lying-in hospital for indigent
women, to be located in the city of Baltimore; and

997

WHEREAS, It has been represented to the General Assembly
that the money so appropriated has been expended for the pur-
pose specified, and that a portion thereof has been expended in
the purchase of a lot, beginning on the south side of Lom-
bard street, one hundred and eighty-one feet east from the
southeast corner of Lombard and Sharp streets, and running
thence east on the south side of Lombard street forty-five
feet to a ten foot alley, laid out and left open by James

dred feet; and thence west along the south side of said

alley nineteen feet wide, and parallel to Lombard street,
forty-five feet; thence northerly by a straight line to the
place of beginning; subject to the annual rent of six hun-
dred dollars: and the equipment thereon of a lying-in hos-
pital; that the accommodations and equipment of said lying-
in hospital have become insufficient for the increased demand
for admission; that the change in the character of the portion
of the city in which said hospital is located, and its devotion
to manufacturing and mercantile establishments, and the dis-
tance from the main buildings of said College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Baltimore City, renders it desirable that the
present hospital be abandoned, and that the said lot and im-
provements be sold, leased or exchanged.
