SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 584.
AN ACT to repeal the one hundred and fifty-fourth Section
of Article seven of the Code of Public Local Laws of the
State of Maryland, relating to the town of Taneytown, in
Carroll County, and to re enact the same in an amended or
different form,

Repeal.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the one hundred and fifty-fourth section of
article seven of the Code of Public Local Laws of the State
of Maryland, relating to the town of Taneytown, in Carroll
county, be and the same is hereby repealed and re enacted so
as to read as follows :

154. A majority of the commissioners shall have power to
enact and pass all such laws and ordinances, not inconsistent
with the laws of this State or of the county, or this sub-title
of this article, as they may deem wise and expedient for the
comfort, health, order, prosperity, peace and convenience of
said town, and the inhabitants thereof; to open and establish,
grade, curb, pave and repair such roads, streets, lanes and
alleys as have been or may be laid out for that purpose; to
prevent and remove nuisances; to provide against fires, and the
extinguishment of the same; to regulate tire companies; to pro-
vide for the safety of houses, buildings and chimneys from
fire; to prevent and regulate the use of explosive materials; to
regulate party walls and division fences; to regulate and pro-
vide for the issuing of licenses or permits for all hawking,
peddling and vending of goods, wares and merchandise of
every description upon the streets, lanes, alleys or highways of
the said town of Taneytown, and to issue licenses or permits to
all itinerant peddlers who may go from house to house to vend
or sell any goods, wares or merchandise; to issue licenses to any
and all persons entering into or beginning any transient business
