FRANK BROWN, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

General Assembly of Maryland at its January session, 1892,
and as a consequence the salaries of the several inspectors of
oysters appointed by the Governor, under the provisions of
said act, remain unpaid; now. therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be and he
is hereby required to adopt such legal proceedings against
the packers, shippers and wholesale and retail dealers in
Maryland, who have refused or neglected to report the
number of bushels of oysters purchased, and pay the tax
thereon imposed, as in his judgment may bo necessary to
enforce the observance of said law; and the Comptroller is
hereby directed to call upon the Attorney-General of the
State for legal advice and counsel as to the method of his pro-
cedure in such case; and it is hereby made the duty of the
Attorney-General to advise the Comptroller as to the constitu-
tionality of the law, and make as speedily as possible, if neces-
sary, a test case to be brought before and decided by the Court
of Appeals.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Comptroller
is hereby required to ascertain the amount due from the State
of Maryland to the several inspectors under said act, chapter
278, of the acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed
at its January session, 1892, and issue his warrant upon the
Treasurer of Maryland for the payment of the same out of
the fund standing to the credit of the oyster fund of the State.

Appropria-
tion.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 6th, 1894.

Effective.

CHAPTER 582.

AN ACT to permit fishing with pound nets in the waters of
the Chesapeake Bay, from a point two hundred yards west-
ward from the extreme north end of Howels Point to the
north end of the broad beach at the mouth of Still Pond
Creek.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall be lawful for any owner or owners
