CHAPTER 534.
AN ACT to authorize the consolidation of the Washington
City and Point Lookout Railroad Company and the Wash-
ington and Potomac Railroad Company into one corporation
under certain contingencies and conditions.

Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, The Washington City and Point Lookout Rail-
road Company, incorporated under the General Laws of the
State of Maryland by certificate of incorporation dated the
23d day of February, 1872, and the Washington and Potomac
Railroad Company, incorporated in like manner under the pro-
visions of law for the incorporation of railroad companies,
after a receiver's sale, by certificate of incorporation dated the
1st day of February, 1886, run immediately parallel and adja-
cent to each other; and

WHEREAS, The route, direction and proximity of said rail-
roads is such as to negative the idea that either of them can
be run to their own financial advantage or to the material
advantage of the county traversed by them; and

WHEKEAS, For the mutual benefit of both of said compa-
nies and for the benefit of the residents of the section of
country traversed by them, it is desirable that a consolidation,
which will lead to the construction, equipment and mainte-
nance of one road, should be made; and

WHEREAS, The said Washington City and Point Lookout
Railroad Company is now, under a decree of the Circuit Court
for Prince George's county, in the hands of a receiver, and
will shortly be sold at receiver's sale; and

WHEREAS, Under the reorganization of said Washington
City and Point Lookout Railroad Company, under the provi-
sions of the law relating to the formation of railroad compa-
nies after receiver's sale, it will be competent for said
companies to consolidate, but some doubts exist as to the cor-
porate rights previously granted said respective corporations ;
therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Washington City and Point Lookout
Railroad Company when sold and reorganized after the
receiver's sale shortly to be made thereof, in conformity to the
provisions of law in such cases made and provided, and the
