205 F. That the provisions of the several sections herein
above designated as sections two hundred and five "A," two
hundred and five "B," two hundred and five "G," two
hundred and five "D," two hundred and five "E," shall not
be of any force or effect unless at an election to be held on the
fourth Monday of March, A. D. 189J, the qualified voters of
Hagerstown shall by a majority of the votes cast ratify the
provisions thereof; and all ballots cast in favor of the loan
provided thereby shall be marked " For the Fire Improvement
Loan," and all ballots cast against the same shall be marked
"Against the Fire Improvement Loan;" and if a majority of
the votes so cast shall be " For the Fire Improvement Loan,"
then sections two hundred and five "A," two hundred and five
"B," two hundred and five "G," two hundred and five " D,"
two hundred and tive "E," as above designated, shall be in
effect, and if a majority of the votes so cast shall be "Against
the Fire Improvement Loan," the said sections shall bo null
and void; and the mayor shall give notice of said election by
publication in one or more newspapers of Hagerstown at least
ten days before the day of said election.

Question to
be voted on.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the following new section
be added to article twenty-two of the Code of Public Local
Laws, title "Washington County," sub-title "Hagerstown," to
follow section one hundred and ninety-five, and to be known
and designated as section one hundred and ninety-five "A,"
and to be read as follows :

New section.

SEC. 195 A. The mayor and council of Hagerstown are
authorized and empowered, in addition to the amount now
authorized by law, to levy annually on assessable property of
the town a tax not exceeding in amount five cents on every
hundred dollars' worth of assessable property, for fire purposes,
provided that at an election to be held on the fourth Monday of
March, A. D. 1894, the qualified voters of the town of Hagers
town shall approve the issue of bonds by the said mayor and
council to an amount not exceeding three thousand dollars, to
be known as the " Fire Improvement Loan," and to be used in
securing a fire alarm system for the citizens of Hagerstown.

To levy a tax.


SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of passage.

Approved March 7th, 1894.

Effective.
