Registration

qualified to register and vote at any municipal election held
thereunder, and who shall apply for a registration; and the
said officers of registration shall cause said list to be published
by hand-bills posted in such places in said town as they may
elect; and said officers of registration shall receive, as com-
pensation for their services as registers of voters, such sums as
may be determined by the council, for each day in which they
shall be engaged in registering voters entitled to vote at any
election.

Custody of
registration
books.

SEC. 8. Said officers of registration shall, at least ten days
before any municipal election in said town of Brunswick,
deliver the books containing the names of the qualified voters
of the different wards or precincts of said town, arranged in
alphabetical order, noting opposite to the name of each person
whether white or colored, the ward, precinct, street, alley or
lane, or other local designation of his residence, to the clerk to
the council, whose duty it shall be to keep said book and per-
mit no person to have acaess to it, except in his presence, until
the morning of election, when said clerk shall deliver the same
to the judges of election in their respective wards or precincts,
and at the same time the clerk shall deliver to the judges of
election in their respective wards or precincts an accurate list
of the names of the qualified voters of said town, with their
color and residence placed opposite their names, to be used as
the list to be voted from and checked in the different wards or
precincts.

Elections,

SEC. 9. All elections shall be held hereafter by judges for
the different wards or precincts, to be appointed by the council,
in such manner as shall be directed from time to time by ordi-
nance of said corporation not inconsistent with the provisions
of this charter.

Powers of
Judges of
election.
|
SEC. 10. The judges of election shall have and exercise the
powers and authority of justices of the peace in and about the
polls during all elections held under this act, for the purpose
of maintaining order and preserving peace.

Returns of
elections.
|
SEC. 11. The said judges of election shall, within two days
after any election, make a correct return of the results thereof
in their respective wards or precincts to the clerk to the
council, who shall immediately thereafter publish the same.
