LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 517.

AN ACT to encourage the killing of hawks, big owls and
crows in Calvert County.

Bounty for
killing
hawks, big
owls and
crows.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That any person killing any hawks, big owl or
crow within the limits of Calvert county, shall be entitled to
a bounty of twenty-five cents for every hawk and big owl, and
six cents for every crow so killed.

Certificate
from justice
of the peace

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That to obtain said bounty it
shall be necessary for the person killing any hawk, big owl or
crow, to produce the scalp of such hawk or big owl, or bill
of such crow, before some justice of the peace of Calvert
county, and at the same time make oath that the said hawk,
big owl or crow was killed within the limits of Calvert county,
and thereupon the said justice of the peace shall give a certifi-
cate of the production of such scalps or bills, and the taking of
said oath; and it shall be the duty of the said justice of the
peace to destroy such scalps or bill, so as to prevent a second
allowance for the same.

Tax to pay
bounty.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That upon the production of
such certificate, the County Commissioners of Calvert county
are hereby authorized and directed to levy upon the assessable
property of said county, a sum sufficient for the aforesaid
bounty, for use of the person or persons producing the same,
and the treasurer of Calvert county shall collect and pay the
same accordingly.

No fee to
Justice

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That no justice of the peace shall
be entitled to any fee or reward for the taking of such oath or
the issuing such certificate.

Fish hawks
excluded

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the aforegoing sections shall
not be so construed as to include any fish hawk.

Effective.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
