LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 6th, 1894.

CHAPTER 421.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments, Sections
167 and 168 of Article 23 of the Code of Public Local
Laws, title, "Wicomico County, " sub-title "Sharptown, "
and to add an additional section thereto, to be designated
as 167 A.

Repeal.

New section.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That sections 167 and 168 of the Public Local
Laws, title "Wicomico County, " sub-title "Sharptown" be and
the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as
follows; and a new section, to be designated as 167 A, be and is
added thereto.

Powers and
duties of
commis-
sioners.

167. The said commissioners, or a majority of them, shall
have full power to make all such by-laws, regulations and
ordinances, not inconsistent with the laws and Constitution of
this State, as from time to time they may deem wise, equitable
and expedient for the comfort, health, convenience and pros-
perity of said town and its inhabitants; for the prevention
and removal of nuisances, preservation of health and suppres-
sion of vice and immorality within the limits of said town.
The commissioners shall levy, on or before the first Tuesday
of October annually, on the assessable property of the town,
a sum sufficient for all general purposes, such taxes not to
exceed twenty cents on the $100 worth of property. Such
taxes, when levied, shall be a preferred lieu upon the property
assessed, and shall be due and demandable on the first day of
January in each year after being levied.

taxes.

167 A. For the collection of taxes so levied, the commis-
sioners shall appoint collector, who may be the bailiff of said
town, at the time the annual levy is made. The collector shall,
within ten days after his appointment, give bond to the State
of Maryland in double the amount of taxes to be collected, and
