LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 314.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Board of Public
Works to build and equip one new bugeye for the use of the
State Fishery Force in place of the old sloop E. B. Groome,
unseaworthy, and now used by said force on the Patuxent
river, and also to provide for two local guard-boats during
the oyster season, one at the mouth of Tred Avon river in
Talbot County, and the other to assist in guarding Chester
river and tributaries.

To build or
buy new
bugeye.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Board of Public Works be and they are
hereby authorized to purchase or build one new bugeye for the
use of the State Fishing Force, to take the place of the old
sloop E. B. Groome, now in said service, and unseaworthy, and
to name the same, and to sell said sloop so replaced, and to also
provide for two small sailing vessels to serve during the oyster
season, one to be stationed at the mouth of the Tred Avon
river in Talbot county, and the other in Chester river.

To sell "E.B.
Groome."

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That the said Board of Public
Works be authorized to sell the said E. B. Groome, either at
public or private sale, and to turn over the proceeds of said
sale to the Comptroller, to be placed to the credit of the oyster
fund.

To hire two
boats.

SEC. 3. Be it enacted, That the said Board of Public Works
shall be authorized to rent or hire two suitable boats to assist in
guarding the waters at the mouth of the Tred Avon river, and
adjacent thereto, and the waters of Chester river and tributa-
ries, at a cost not to exceed forty dollars per month for such
hiring, and to appoint suitable persons to command such boats,
at a salary of fifty dollars per month, from the fifteenth day of
October to the fifteenth day of March, following, and the com-
mander shall be authorized to select such number of seamen to
serve on said boats as the said Board of Public Works shall

authorize, not to exceed three in number for each boat; one of
each crew shall receive a salary of forty dollars per month and
the remainder thirty dollars per month, to serve from October
fifteenth to March fifteenth, as before stated; provided, how-
ever, that the owners of such boats, so hired, shall keep the
same in good order and repair; and provided also, that the
clerk of the Circuit Court for Talbot county be and is hereby
