CHAPTER 284.

AN ACT to provide for the election of an additional judge
of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, as authorized by
the amendment of the Constitution, provided for by the Act
of 1892, Chapter 313, and adopted by the people at the
general election on November 7th, 1893.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That in order to give effect to the amendment of
the Constitution, as provided in the act of 1892, chapter 313, en-
titled "An Act to add an additional section to article four of the
Constitution of this State," which said amendment was adopted
by the people at the general election held on November 7th,
1893, there shall be elected another judge of the Supreme
Bench of Baltimore city, by the legal and qualified voters of
said city, at the election to be held in said city on the Tuesday
after the first Monday of November, eighteen hundred and
ninety-four, the said judge when so elected to be subject to all
the provisions of the Constitution relating to the Supreme
Bench of Baltimore city and the several judges thereof, and
to be assigned to the performance of such judicial duties as
said Supreme Bench shall from time to time indicate.

CHAPTER 285.

AN ACT to regulate the levy for State purposes for the year
eighteen hundred and ninety-four and subsequent years.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Levy of State
taxes.

Maryland, That the County Commissioners of the several
counties of this State and the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore city are hereby directed to levy the State taxes for
the year eighteen hundred and ninety-four and annually there-
after, to be collected according to law and to be apportioned as
follows : A tax of five and one-half cents on each one hun-
dred dollars to meet the interest and to create a sinking fund
for the redemption of the defence redemption loan; a tax of
one and three-fourths of one cent on each one hundred dollars
to meet the interest and to create a sinking fund for the re-
demption of the exchange loan of eighteen hundred and
