CHAPTER 198.

AN ACT to authorize the Clerk of the Circuit Court for
Baltimore County to transcribe certain land indexes and
mortgage indexes in his office, and to provide for the pay-
ment therefor.

WHEREAS, Many of the land indexes and mortgage indexes
in the offices of the clerk of the Circuit Court for Baltimore •
county have become worn and mutilated, and portions thereof
are liable to become useless for the purposes for which they
were intended; and,

Preamble.

WHEREAS, The said indexes, although they have been fre-
quently repaired and rebound, have in consequence of the
constant use to which they have been subjected, undergone
deterioration to such an extent that it is impracticable any
longer to preserve them in a sound condition; wherefore it is
necessary that they should be transcribed; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General. Assembly of
Maryland, That the clerk of the Circuit Court for Baltimore
county, under the supervision of the judges of the said court,
be and he is hereby authorized and required to make or have
made transcripts of the land indexes and mortgage indexes in
his office containing entries from December first, in the year
eighteen hundred and fifty-one, to December thirteenth, in
the year eighteen hundred and ninety-three, in such manner
as to conform to the requirements of sections twenty-seven and
twenty-eight of article three of the Public Local Laws of
Maryland, title " Baltimore County, " sub-title " Clerk. "

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the expense incurred by
the making of said transcripts shall be paid out of the surplus
revenue of the said clerk of the Circuit Court for Baltimore
county, and the County Commissioners shall pay the neces-
sary cost of new index books.

the date of its passage.
