vacancy; said election shall be held after not less than ten
days' notice and shall be conducted in all respects as regular
elections are conducted.
67. The Mayor by virtue of his office shall see that the

ordinances of the town are duly and faithfully executed ;
by and with the advice and consent of the Council, he shall
appoint a town attorney, chief of police and town clerk, and
such other officers as the ordinances of the town may pro-
vide; he shall annually, on the first Monday in April, report
to the Council in writing the general state of the town, with
an accurate account of money received and expended, which
said report shall be published in one or more newspapers of
said town, giving a full and particular statement of all
receipts and disbursements; he shall have power to remove
any of the officers appointed by him for neglect or viola-
tion of any duties pertaining to their respective offices, and
shall appoint others in their stead, subject to confirmation
by the Council, as in the case of original appointments; he
shall have general supervision of the town, and shall receive
for his services an annual salary of one hundred and fifty
dollars; he shall by and with the consent of the Council
appoint three citizens of known integrity, experience and
sound judgment, one of whom shall be a physician, who,
together with the Mayor and town attorney, shall constitute
the board of health, and as such shall have all the authority
within the limits of said town that is now or may be here-
after vested in the health officers of Talbot county or in
inspectors of the State board of health, or that may be
vested in them by the charter and ordinances of said town.

Term of office.

The members of the said board shall hold office for two
years from the date of their respective appointments, and
until the qualification of their successors, and shall receive
such compensation for their services as may be allowed by
ordinance.
68. The Mayor by and with the advice and consent of the

appointed.

Council shall annually, on or before the first Monday in
June, appoint a competent person, a resident and legal voter
of said town, to be chief of police, who shall hold his office
until the first Monday in June following his appointment
and until the qualification of his successor, unless sooner
removed as authorized by law. The chief of police shall see
that all ordinances are enforced, and he, together with such
