SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 437.

AN ACT regulating the qualifications of and salaries of
certain school teachers of the White Public Schools of
Montgomery County, Maryland.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the salaries of principal teachers of the white

public schools of Montgomery county, in schools where the
corps of teachers consist of a principal teacher and one
regularly appointed teacher, subordinate to the principal
teacher, shall be five hundred dollars ($500.00) for a school
year, and in schools where the corps of teachers consist of
a principal teacher and more than one regularly appointed
teacher, subordinate to the principal teacher, the salary of
such principal teacher shall be as many hundred dollars in
excess of five hundred dollars per school year as there
are additional regularly appointed subordinate teachers in
excess of one; the salaries named may, in the discretion of
the County School Commissioners be increased, but the
percentage of increase shall be the same as to all principal
teachers of schools having a principal teacher and one or
more teachers subordinate to said principal teacher; and in
the event there shall be a deficiency in any year in the reve-
nues of the said County School Commissioners, the salaries
of all teachers in said county may, in the discretion of the
said County School Commissioners, be reduced during the
period of such deficiency of revenue, and the said reduction
shall be in direct proportion to the salaries received by each
teacher.

SEC. 2. For the purposes of this Act the principal teacher
