SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 77.
AN ACT to amend Article 7 of the Code of Public Local
Laws, title "Carroll County," sub-title "Justices of the
Peace and Constables," by adding new sections thereto, to
be designated as Sections 59 A, 59 B, 59 C, 59 D, 59 E,
59 F and 59 G, providing for a Police Justice for Elec-
tion District No. 7.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

"Carroll County," sub-title "Justices of the Peace and
Constables," be and the same is hereby amended by the
addition of new sections thereto, following Section 59, to be
numbered " Sections 59 A, 59 B, 59 C, 59 D, 59 E, 59 F and
59 G," and to read as follows :
Section 59 A. After the appointment by the Governor of

Police Justice
to be selected

Maryland of the justices of the peace provided for by Section
59, it shall be the duty of the resident judge of the Circuit
Court for Carroll County to select from the justices so
appointed for Election District No. 7 one who shall be
known and designated as "Police Justice," who shall have
the same jurisdiction in criminal cases as justices of the
peace of Carroll county now possess, and which may here-
after be conferred upon them by and under the laws of the
State. The said police justice so selected shall be required
to try and determine all violations of the criminal laws of
the State and ordinances of the city of Westminster, which
may arise in said Election District No. 7, within the juris-
diction possessed by justices of the peace; subject, how-
ever, to the same right of election to be tried by jury, notice
of which must be clearly given by said justice to the party
before beginning trial, and subject to the same right of
appeal as now or may hereafter exist, under the general

Proviso.

law; provided, however, that nothing contained in this Act
shall deprive the said police justice of jurisdiction to try
criminal cases which arise in any other district of said
county, if the same shall be properly brought before him.
