WHEREAS, There remains unsold one hundred and thirty-
four thousand dollars of the total of one million, six hun-

provisions of the Act of 1904, Chapter 228, said one hun-
dred and thirty-four thousand dollars being the amount left
unused out of the appropriation of two hundred and fifty
thousand dollars for the special purposes mentioned in the
Act of 1904, Chapter 129; and

WHEREAS, The construction and equipment of a suitable
annex or extension to the Maryland Penitentiary for the use
of female convicts are urgently needed; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

land, That the actual cash proceeds of one hundred and
thirty-four thousand dollars of the Maryland State bonds
issued, but not yet sold, out of the total issue of one million,
six hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars authorized by
the Act of 1904, Chapter 228, when sold as in said Act pre-
scribed, shall be paid to the State Treasurer, and such pro-
ceeds of sale shall be used exclusively, so far as the same
may be required for such purpose, for the construction and
equipment of a suitable annex or extension to the Maryland
State Penitentiary for the use of female convicts, and shall
be paid by the Treasurer upon the warrant of the Comptroller
to the directors of the Maryland Penitentiary, upon their
written order, from time to time, to be applied by them to
the cost of the construction and equipment of such annex or
extension.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the directors of the

Maryland Penitentiary are hereby authorized to construct and
equip, as soon as shall be reasonably practicable, a suitable
annex or extension to the Maryland Penitentiary for the use
of female convicts; and it shall be the duty of said directors
of the Maryland Penitentiary to cause to be prepared plans
and specifications for the construction and equipment of such
annex or extension to the Maryland Penitentiary, and to
submit the same to the board of public works for their
approval, and upon such approval it shall be the duty of
said directors of the Maryland Penitentiary to advertise not
less than thirty days, by publication in such newspaper or
newspapers as they shall in their discretion think proper,
