expenses of the town, as well as for the purpose of the
proper protection of the health, good order and peace of the
town; for the suppression of gambling, vice and immorality;
for apprehending and punishing of all tramps and vagrants;
they may pass all ordinances necessary from time to time to
carry out and enforce the foregoing provisions, and to give
full force and effect to the powers and authority conferred
on said corporation, and may enforce such ordinances by
reasonable fines and penalties, not exceeding twenty-five
dollars in any one case, as may appear to them right; they
may recover said fine or penalty by an action of debt, and
in addition thereto, may imprison the offender until the fine
be paid, not exceeding thirty days; such imprisonment to be
in the town lockup, if one be provided, or in the county
jail; and the sheriff of Prince George's county shall receive
and confine any person so committed.
Section 22. And be it enacted, That the Major and Com-

mon Council shall cause to be constructed, as they may deter-
mine necessary for the public benefit, sidewalks in any of
the streets of said town not less than four feet in width, of
brick, concrete, cement or other material, and shall assess
upon the land abutting said sidewalks the cost thereof, which
assessment shall be a lien upon such abutting property, to
be assessed at such time as the Mayor and Common Council
may determine, and to be recovered from the owners of such
abutting property by said Mayor and Common Council as
taxes due the corporation of Hyattsville are collected; the
Mayor and Common Council shall have power to make all
necessary regulations as to the notice of such assessments
to property owners.
Be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect from
the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 114.
AN ACT to repeal Sections 222, 223, 224, 225, 226 and 227
of the Code of Public Local Laws, entitled "Kent
County," sub-title "County Treasurer," as enacted by the
Act of 1894, Chapter 292, and to repeal the Act of 1902,
Chapter 156, and to re-enact the same with amendments.
