office, and to make certain indexes of papers or proceed-
ings therein, and to procure from the Commissioners of
the Land Office certain papers and proceedings affecting
titles to land in Harford county.

CHAP. 799

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the clerk of the Circuit Court for Harford county
be and he is hereby empowered and directed to equip his
office with such furniture and metalic and other fixtures as
he may determine are necessary and requisite for the prompt
and safe dispatch of the business and protection of the
records of his office, and the proper and easy accommoda-
tion of the public, and to procure from the land office of
Maryland copies of all original papers and proceedings in
the high court of chancery affecting titles to land in Harford
county; and the said clerk shall securely file and index or
record the same in his office, and shall not permit said
original papers and proceeding to be removed from his
office except by the judges of said court in person.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in all such causes where

the original papers, maps, plats and proceedings cannot be
found, but the same or any part thereof have been docketed
or recorded amongat the records of said high court of chan-
cery, said clerk be and he is hereby empowered and directed
to make complete searches and copies of said dockets and
records, and to file the same in his office. The copies pro-
vided for in this section and Section 1 of this Act shall be.
made by and under the direction of the clerk aforesaid, and
no charge shall be made by the commissioner of the land
office for any searches required to carry out the provisions
of this Act, or for any copies made, unless said copies are
made on the request of the clerk aforesaid.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said clerk be and he is
hereby further empowered and directed to prepare complete

indexes of all bonds filed in his office of trustees or other
fiduciaries, and of chattel mortgages and bills of sale and of
releases of original mortgages and of marriage licenses
therein filed.

said clerk under the aforegoing sections of this Act shall be
paid out of any surplus revenues now in or which may here-
after come into the hands of said clerk.
