SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 704.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
425 of Article 27 of the Code of Public General Laws of
Maryland, title " Crimes and Punishments," sub-title
"Vagrants and Tramps."

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 425 of Article 27 of the Code of Public

re-enact.

General Laws of Maryland, title " Crimes and Punishments,"
sub-title " Vagrants and Tramps," be and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted with amendments, so as to read as
follows :
425. Every person, not insane, who wanders about in
this State and lodges in market houses, market places, or in

Vagrants and
tramps.

other public buildings, or in barns, outhouses, barracks, or
in the open air, without having any fixed place of residence,
and without having any lawful occupation in the city, town
or county in which he may so wander, and without having
any visible means of support, shall be deemed to be a tramp,
and to be guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be subject to
imprisonment in the House of Correction, at the discretion
of the court or justice of the peace hearing the charge, for a
period of not less than thirty days nor more than one year ;
provided, that in Talbot, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester
counties the court or justice of the peace may sentence such
offenders to the county jails of the respective counties instead
of the House of Correction. This section not to apply to
Allegany county.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to amend Article 1 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, entitled "Allegany County," sub-title
"Cumberland," by adding four new sections thereto, which
