cating liquors in said town of Burkittsville who shall allow
or permit the playing of cards or games of chance within
his or their saloon or about the premises, or who shall per-
mit his or their saloon to be open for any purpose between
the hours of 11 o'clock P. M. and 5 o'clock A. M. shall be
fined not less than ten dollars nor more than twenty-five
dollars, or confined in the county jail for not less than one
month nor more than three months, or both, in the discre-
tion of the court.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from and after the first day of May in the year A. D. 1906.

CHAPTER 563.
AN ACT to create a Commission to examine and report
upon the workings of laws providing for "Indeterminate,"
" Indefinite " and " Cumulative " Sentences in Criminal
Cases, in those States where such laws have been adopted,
and to report upon the advisability of similar legislation
by this State; and also appropriating money for the
expenses of said Commission.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Governor be and he is hereby authorized and
directed to appoint a commission of five citizens of this

State, whose duty it shall be to make an examination of the
working and practical results of laws providing for " inde-
terminate," "indefinite" and "cumulative" sentences in
criminal cases, in those States where such laws have been
enacted. And the said commission shall prepare and sub-
mit to the next General Assembly of this State a report
embodying the results of its said examination. Said report
shall include its recommendations as to the wisdom of
enacting similar legislation by this State; and the said com-
mission shall draft such amendments, if any, to the laws of
this State as it may deem advisable.
