CHAPTER 542.
AN ACT to amend Article 22 of the Code of Public Local
Laws, entitled " Washington County," sub-title " Clear-
spring," by adding thereto a new section to come in imme-
diately after Section 81, and to be known as Section 81 A.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

land, That Article 22 of the Code of Public Local Laws,
entitled " Washington County," sub-title " Clearspring," be
amended by adding thereto a new section to come in imme-
diately after Section 81, and to be known as Section 81 A, and
to read as follows :
Section 81 A. That the said commissioners may impose a
license on all telegraph and telephone companies whose

respective lines pass within and through the corporate limits
of said town; provided, said license shall not exceed the
sum of fifty dollars per annum for any one license, and that
said commissioners may require all telephone companies
whose lines pass within and through the corporate limits of
said town to have and maintain at least one public 'phone
each centrally located in said town, same to be placed within
the customary booth, and employ competent operator and
messenger, allowing the operator to act in capacity of mes-
senger; the said commissioners may also require all tele-
graph companies whose lines pass within and through the
corporate limits of said town to have and maintain at least
one office each in said town and employ a competent operator
to have charge of same.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
