WHEREAS, He is now discharging the duties of the said
office, and will, on the first day of May, 1903, if he should so
long live, attain the age of seventy years ; therefore,
|
Preamble.
|
|
|
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Honorable Charles E. Phelps be and he is hereby con-
tinued in office until the expiration of the term of fifteen
years, from the Tuesday next after the first Monday of
November, 1897, if he shall so long live, and until his
succsssor shall be elected and qualified.

Joint Resolution of the General Assembly of Maryland
requesting the Secretary of the Treasury of the United
States Government to require the use of Maryland granite
in the construction of the United States Custom House at
Baltimore, Maryland.

WHEREAS, A new custom house is to be constructed by the
United States Government at Baltimore, Maryland ; and
WHEREAS, The State of Maryland produces as fine and
durable a granite as there is produced elsewhere,
|
Preamble.
|
|
|
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the State of
Maryland, That the Secretary of the Treasury of the United
States Government be and he is hereby requested to require
that in the construction and erection of the United States
Custom House at Baltimore, Maryland, granite stone pro-
duced from the quarries of the State of Maryland be used.

Be it further resolved, That the Secretary of State be and
he is hereby authorized to transmit a copy of these resolutions,
under the seal of the State, to the said Secretary of the
Treasury of the United States and to each of the Senators
and Representatives now in Congress from this State.

Joint Resolution requesting the Governor to issue a commis-
sion to Hon. Arthur P. Gorman, Senator elected in the
Congress of the United States from this State, for the term
of six years from the 4th day of March, 1903.

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That His Excellency, the Governor, be and he is hereby
requested to issue a commission in the usual form to Hon.
Arthur P. Gorman as Senator-elect to represent this State in
the Congress of the United States for the term of six years
from the fourth day of March in the year 1903.
