JOINT RESOLUTIONS

Assented to by the General Assembly of Maryland, at a

Session begun on the first day of January and ended

on the thirty-first day of March, 1902.

No. 1.


WHEREAS, A Court of Inquiry was held at Washington,
D. C., under the Navy Department of the United States, at
the request of Rear Admiral Winfield Scott Schley, of the
United States Navy, for the purpose of inquiring and examin-
ing into the conduct of said Rear Admiral Schley, "the
Commodore," during the Santiago campaign of the recent
Spanish-American war; and

WHEREAS, The president of said Court of Inquiry, Admiral
George Dewey, made a separate or minority report or finding
of the facts from the evidence submitted and heard ; be it

Preamble.

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Congress of the United States be and it is hereby memorial-
ized and requested that it endorse, approve and accept the said
report or finding of the said president of said Court of Inquiry
as the opinion, views and verdict of said Congress of the
United States.

Request
made.

Resolved, That the Senators and Representatives in Con-
gress from the State of Maryland be and they are hereby
requested to specially urge this resolution, or one similar
thereto, in order that full credit may be given said Rear
Admiral Schley for the glorious achievements of that battle
in which he was so nobly assisted by the valiant sailors of the
United States Navy under his command.

Resolved, That the Governor of this State be and he is
hereby requested to transmit a copy of these resolutions, under
the seal of the State, to the Senators and Representatives now
in Congress, with the request to each to duly present the same
to their respective Houses in the 57th Congress.
