CHAP. 628.

not more than two days in each year, or furnish a substitute;
and if any person as aforesaid, alter having been summoned
in writing two days previous to the day appointed by the road
supervisors of said district, shall fail to appear or provide some
one in his stead, or pay the sum of one dollar for each day he
may be summoned, on or before the day of his appearance,
unless for good cause excused by the road supervisor, or after
appearance shall refuse to work unless excused by the road
supervisor, for good cause, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction thereof before any justice of the peace
of Wicomico county shall be fined not less than two dollars,
and on failure to pay fine and costs shall be committed to the
county jail for not less than two days or until fine and costs
are paid.

Mile posts
placed
on public
roads, etc.

129. The County Commissioners may have placed on such
public roads of the county as they may elect mile posts, and
at the forks of public roads, when they think advisable, finger
board or signs showing the prominent places to which said
roads lead, and the distance to such places; and any person
tearing down or defacing any such mile posts, finger boards or
signs shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction
before a justice of the peace shall be fined not less than five
nor more than ten dollars, and shall be committed to the
county jail until such fine and costs are paid or be discharged
by due process of law.

Term
of office.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the road supervisors now
appointed shall serve until the appointment and qualification
of their successors as provided for in this Act, or shall resign
or be removed for cause, and the commissioners may fill all
vacancies.

How

effective.

SEC. 3, And be it enacted, That the passage of this Act
shall not affect or impair any right vested or acquired, and
existing at the time of its passage, nor shall it impair, dis-
charge or release any existing contract, obligation, duty or
liability of any kind whatsoever.
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

bly of Maryland, passed at the January Session, nineteen
