STATE OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 498.

CHAPTER 498.
AN ACT to amend Article 27 of the Code of Public. General
Laws of Maryland, title "Crimes and Punishments." by the
addition of another Section, to follow immediately after
Section 47B, and to be known and designated as Section
47 C, and to be under the sub-title ''Desecration of the
National Flag," and to provide a penalty for the violation
thereof.

New section
added.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Article 27 of the Code of Public General
Laws of Maryland, title "Crimes and Punishments," be and
the same is hereby amended by the addition of a new section,
to follow immediately after section 47 B, and to be known and
designated as section 47 C, and to be under the sub-title
"Desecration of the National Flag," to read as follows :

National flag.

47 C. The National flag or the coat of arms of the United
States, or any imitation or representation thereof, shall not be
attached to or imprinted or represented upon any goods, wares
or merchandise, or any advertisement of the same; and no
goods, wares or merchandise, or any advertisement of the
same shall be attached to the National flag or the coat of arms
of the United States, and no such advertisement shall be im-
printed thereon. Any person, firm or corporation violating
the terms of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misde-
meanor, and upon conviction thereof before a Court of com-
petent jurisdiction of this State, shall be fined not more than
one hundred dollars or imprisoned for more than twelve
mouths, or both ; and in the event that the violation shall be
by a corporation, the penalty shall be inflicted upon the presi-
dent or other chief officer thereof.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from April 30, 1902.

CHAPTER 499.
AN Act to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 15
of Chapter number 425 of the Acts of 1892 relating to the
power of the Mayor and Councilmen of Lonaconing,
Allegany county, to pass ordinances to suppress nuisances.

Repeal
and re-enact.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted, That section 15 of chapter 425
of the Acts of 1892 granting certain powers to the Mayor
and Councilmen of Lonaconing, Allegany county, be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments, so as
to read as follows :
