CHAP. 428

Penalty
for violation

by the Board of Commissioners, or until their services are
terminated by death, resignation or retirement. The Board of
Commisssoners may punish any officer for any offense by fire
not exceeding $50, or by suspension not exceeding one month ;
but in such cases the charges shall be reduced to writing and
a fair hearing be given. The commissioners shall cause to be
kept in their office a minute book or books of county police-in
which shall be recorded a list of all applications, and date of
appointment of all officers of the force, all charges preferred
and dispositions made thereof, all fines, suspensions, removals
or resignations, all commendations and all public reprimands
issued by the board and such other proceedings concerning the
police force as the board may deem necessary and proper.
Nothing in this Act shall be construed as forbidding the com-
missioners from making at any time a permanent reduction in
the police force ; and the Marshal of Police is exempt from
the provision of this Act.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from January 15th, 1903.

CHAPTER 429.
AN ACT to refund to William E. Griffith, Collector of State
Taxes, herein mentioned, money erroneously paid by him
into the State Treasury.

Warrant
to be issued.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be and is
hereby authorized and directed to issue his warrant upon the
Treasurer of this State, in favor of William E. Griffith, col-
lector for the second district of Allegany county, for money
having been erroneously paid by the said William E. Griffith,
collector, into the State treasury for the years 1894 and 1895,
the sum of three hundred and sixty-three dollars and thirty-
two cents, the same having received the recommendation of
the treasury officials.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
Approved April 8, 1902.

CHAPTER 430.
AN ACT to amend the charter of The Hagerstown Railway
Company of Washington County, Maryland, and to
authorize the said company to extend its lines and to buy,
lease, sell to, connect or consolidate with any other railroad
or railway.
